What color is Pure White?
Despite the name, Pure White (SW 7005) is not a stark, blue-white. It is a clean, bright white with a small amount of warmth, so it looks fresh without feeling cold. That balance is why it is one of Sherwin-Williams' most used whites.
Pure White undertones
Pure White measures +3.0 on the yellow–blue axis (a little warmth) and −0.7 on green–red (a faint lean away from pink). Compared with Extra White (+2.3) it is slightly warmer; compared with Alabaster (+5.2) it is much cleaner.
Pure White LRV and light
An LRV of 84.0 makes it bright enough for dim rooms but not glaring in sunny ones.

Pure White as trim and all-over white

Pure White is a popular trim color because it looks crisp against both warm and cool walls without the stark contrast of the brightest whites. It is a classic trim for Alabaster walls and works as a single white for walls, trim and ceilings in different sheens.
When to avoid Pure White
Avoid Pure White if you want a very crisp, gallery-style white; beside Extra White it looks soft. It is also slightly too warm to match cool white quartz exactly. As trim with very creamy walls, it still looks clean, but a warmer white such as Alabaster (SW 7008) blends more.
Pure White color code, hex and LRV

Pure White's color code is SW 7005. Sherwin-Williams lists it as hex #EDECE6, RGB 237, 236, 230 and LRV 83.957.

Colors that go with Pure White
Pure White vs other popular whites
Pure White sits in the middle of Sherwin-Williams' white range. Extra White (LRV 85.9) is brighter and cleaner; Snowbound (82.8) is similar but a touch softer; Alabaster (82.2) and Greek Villa (84.2) are noticeably warmer. If you want one white for walls, trim and ceilings that never looks cold or creamy, Pure White is the safest middle choice.
Pure White on kitchen cabinets
It gives cabinets a clean, bright look that still feels soft beside warm wood floors. Against stark white quartz it reads very slightly warmer; against creamy stone it looks crisp.
Pure White on ceilings
In a flat finish it makes ceilings recede without the blue cast the coolest whites can show in north light. See every white side by side on the types of white paint page.
